Dear Santa,
Love, Jimmy
We honestly try to not get James (aka Jimmy) a whole bunch of stuff for a few reasons. First, I would like him to appreciate what he does get! Oh and screw writing Santa’s name on everything, he’s going to know that majority of it came from someone who worked hard to buy/make it. Second, I don’t want him to be a spoiled brat and third, I want him to grow up loving the family time more than the gifts. OF COURSE he is a kid and every kid can’t wait to see those presents under the tree in the morning, I am trying to find some balance here. Now, it gets a little tricky because James is the first grandson on my father’s side and first grandchild (since my sister and I) on my Mother’s side. Darren’s parents have two grand babies. James lives in the same town as them so they spend most Christmas mornings with us. Darren and I have a rule because we have such a large family and everyone does a decent job following it. That rule is that he can have one toy/colouring book/clothing item…whatever and a book to read. We get the most use out of books because we read them everyday and encourage this gift the most. I also love when everyone goes in on something big together like a trampoline or play center. Last year, we asked for gift cards to put his big boy room together and that worked out perfectly! You know what trick I started doing? I started leaving the toys at the grandparents homes. I appreciate the thought and time they put into it but I don’t have room for it all and life isn’t all about toys - there’s so much outside to explore. ALRIGHT, now that I wrote that novel, know that I am promoting items off of amazon which isn’t the most sustainable or ethical place to shop for Christmas but again - it’s all about BALANCE.
PLEASE consider shopping small and local this year.
They appreciate your support the most.
We always go to our favourite local stores to buy majority of our gifts and we do a Christmas card each year to hand out to family.
